A 3D Hexagon Pattern

Back in 2016, when the facebook group, Life's A Quilt, first started, I was asked to teach a little bit about sewing 3D Hexagons. I came up with a table runner that used three of the blocks in a vertical layout and I used the Easy Y Seams Technique. There was so many parts and a lot of detailed photos used for the tutorial, I chose to make it a online tutorial. Click here to go to the online tutorial...

But, many quilters I know like to have a printed copy of the pattern in their hand as they work through the steps of piecing a block together.

In 2017, the opportunity presented itself again, for me to teach sewing together a 3D Hexagon Table Runner using Easy Y Seams. Only this time, I didn't want the same vertical layout of hexagons as before. I chose to have my 3D Hexagons laid out side-by-side. I also set up this tutorial in paper format, no matter how many pages it printed out to be. The one catch - this pattern was to be for Life's A Quilt Members only.

Inner City Quilt Tutorial Pattern

I am a member of the Southwest Valor Quilters who are working to cover our military veterans and service members with quilts - a Quilts Of Valor Foundation sub-group.

One of the quilts I have designed is a Inner City Quilt of Valor. Quilt measures approximately 60" x 82".

Full Circle 2022

I ALWAYS have fun playing along with mystery quilts.
The first mystery quilt of our new group, iTec Quilting, was a huge success! The number of different quilt variations produced has been amazing. Feel free to check them out in the group!

Now that the Mystery is over, I get to share with you. A modified version of the pattern of the mystery quilt is available for purchase. Scroll to the bottom of this blog post to find out how to purchase a copy.

For my quilt, I chose to go the route of using jelly rolls called Purple Majesty made by Wilmington Prints. They have the best jelly rolls!

Elephant Chain Quilt

My friend wanted to make a collaborative quilt to give her friend.

I was asked if I could design a pattern for an Elephant Block. She wanted the elephants to look like they were holding the tail of the elephant in front of them.

After being stumped for a bit on how to make it look like one elephant was not going to be goosing the other elephant's behind, I figured it out.

I think these guys turned out cute!!!

Bee Happy!

Bee Happy is a fun little wall hanging that gives off the feeling of a fun and bright spring ahead.

This wall hanging measures approximately 18" wide by 23" tall. When you use a bright sky blue as a background, it allows for your watering can, flowers and bee to be the beautiful focus of your wall hanging.

Raw Edge Machine Applique

A few basics for Raw Edge Applique using your Sewing Machine

This tutorial assumes you have already fused your applique fabric to the background fabric. For this tutorial, I will be using several different template shapes to show you layers, curves, corners, and other such techniques.

Machine Applique

These directions are written to show you how to use the Satin Stitch.

The major difference when using satin stitch and blanket stitch; a stabilizer is needed to keep the fabric from puckering when using a satin stitch.  If you wish to use any other fancy stitch, omit the steps for stabilizers.

New Mexico Chili Ristra

So Excited!!!
This year,

Aunt Judy's Attic

is participating
in the

Row by Row Experience 2019

Taste the Experience!

I must be the luckiest person ever, as I have had the opportunity to design the row for my local quilt shop again!!!

As we thought about this year's theme, Taste the Experience, one thing we all agreed on was chili was the main part of our way of life... Even between the neighboring states; Arizona, Colorado, Texas - our New Mexico Chili Cuisine just 'tastes' different. And for us over here in the southwest, chili is a food staple that is consumed daily!

For our row this year, we decided to make a New Mexico Chili Ristra.

Six-Pointed Crocheted Spool Doily

Six-Pointed Crocheted Spool Doily for Vintage Sewing Machines

The Singer Treadle Machine, made in 1924
I have always wanted one of the 'old' sewing machines; the beautiful wood cabinets always appealed to me. My grandmother has one, and I watched my mom claim it as hers once my grandmother was ready to pass it on. (My mom found a sheet of paper, wrote her name on it, and stuffed it inside the cabinet.) Knowing I would not be getting my grandmother's machine, I have always looked for an old machine for myself.
